Two new high-efficiency cogeneration units in Malacky

Bratislava, 21 July 2016

Termming, a member of the ENGIE Group, will invest additional EUR 1.2 million in the modernisation of the heat management in Malacky. The aim of the new project is to install two high-efficiency cogeneration units for combined heat and power (CHP).

Termming started the construction of cogeneration units in Malacky at the end of 2014. “Within the ENGIE Group, we already have two CHP units in operation, and since this modern technology is not only efficient and financially advantageous, but also environmentally friendly, we have decided to invest in additional equipment. In Malacky, we plan to start operation of two new CHP units with an output of 500 kW and 200 kW this year.” says František Sás, Director of the Energy Management Department. Cogeneration units are designed for the combined production of heat and electricity and their main advantages include fuel savings, reduction of energy purchase costs, minimization of energy distribution costs, environmentally friendly production method, availability of emergency sources of electricity in places of continuous consumption, heat production and cold production – the so-called trigeneration.

“One of our new cogeneration units has already passed the approval procedure and on the other one, on Štúrova Street, work has already started on the power evacuation (burying the cable at a predetermined evacuation point). By the end of the year, both CHP units will be fully operational and commissioned. The waste heat generated by the cogeneration unit will be used to heat hot water,” concludes František Sás.
