ENGIE Services, as one of the partner member companies of the Slovak Green Building Council (SKGBC), took part in the award ceremony of the Sustainability Ambassadors 2018/2019 competition at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava on 28 May 2019. The awards were presented to the representatives of the winning student teams at the Green Business Club event, in the presence of the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Ing. Michal Brašeň, ArtD. and other guests from the academic environment and the business sphere.
The pilot project Sustainability Ambassadors, which ran in four secondary schools in Bratislava from September 2018 to May 2019, focused on vocational training for secondary school students. Its aim was to introduce students to the topic of sustainability in construction, introduce them to potential employers and aspects of teamwork in a real work environment. For the Green School Renewal competition, 4 teams were formed, each consisting of 8 students (2 students from each participating high school). The student teams also included mentors and teachers assisting the students in the process of creating solutions. Solution creation was carried out on the SOLVED virtual platform. The student team, which won the SKGBC award for the best project, presented a study focused on the modernization of the school using eco-friendly insulation, installation of solar panels, green roof, LED lighting and other technological innovations that should ensure a more efficient operation of the building and reduce energy consumption.
One of the mentors of the student teams was Filip Choura, Project Manager of the Energy Services Department at ENGIE Services, who worked with the students not only during the preparation of the presentations, but also during the entire duration of the project. In December 2018 and in March this year, he prepared lectures for them in the field of environment and energy management, and during a professional excursion in the premises of Aupark in Bratislava, he introduced them to the operation and use of technical and technological equipment and systems in the shopping centre.
“I am glad that I could be part of this unique project and pass on my knowledge and experience in the field of energy management to young people, who had the opportunity to gain not only new knowledge in this field, but also practical experience through the preparation of the final thesis. As the project was successful and received a positive response not only from the secondary schools but also from the companies involved, I am glad that it will continue after the holidays and I hope that I will be able to participate again,” concludes Filip Choura.
