Heat recovery from refrigeration equipment at Fajne Food

In January 2022, ENGIE Services completed the installation of an innovative HVAC solution in Fajne Food in Dargov OD. Fajne plans to implement the efficient and economical way of using waste heat from cooling in other stores it plans to open in the future.

Fajne operates one of its Košice stores in the Dargov shopping centre. Their philosophy is to bring honesty back to food, which means that they prefer quality products from local suppliers in their assortment. In addition, they emphasize ecology and sustainability in the use of energy.

ENGIE Services started working with Fajne on the HVAC installation project in August 2021. The assignment included the preparation of an engineering design for the entire installation. “We are delighted and appreciate that the client was open to an innovative design for a heat recovery solution for refrigeration right from the start. This also enabled us to successfully implement our pilot project to install a revolutionary cooling system in refrigerated and freezer cabinets and warehouses,” says Róbert Šándor, Key account manager ENGIE Services.

In the implementation, the client placed emphasis on the environmental friendliness and efficiency of the cooling operation. “For this reason, we have installed refrigeration equipment with environmentally friendly refrigerant in the shop. The waste heat from these devices is discharged into an accumulation tank, which serves as a heat source for heating the shop, its background and preheating (preparation) of hot drinking water. In addition, the excess heat is thwarted by a chiller that has been installed on the roof of the building. In this way, we can provide heating for the shop and its facilities in winter and preheating or heating of drinking water throughout the year,” explains Róbert Šándor.

Fajne Food in OD Dargov opened to the public in January 2022.”We are pleased that the client is satisfied with the modern, environmentally friendly and energy efficient cooling solution. We believe that we will continue the successfully started cooperation in the further expansion of its operations in the Košice region,” concludes Róbert Šándor.
