International ENGIE Innovation Week 2017
The central theme of this year’s ENGIE Innovation Week was “the world of energy in 3D”. Decarbonisation, decentralisation and digitalisation are radically affecting energy production, storage, distribution and consumption. In order to anticipate and exceed new customer expectations in this area, ENGIE develops innovative solutions on a global and local level, in collaboration with start-ups, experts, manufacturers and partners from internal “innovation incubators”. ENGIE Innovation Week included the awarding and presentation of the winners of the internal Innovation Trophies 2017 competition, which aims to promote innovation within the Group and gather the best innovative ideas from around the world. This year, a record 670 innovation projects were entered into the competition, with 52 of the best entries nominated by an expert jury for the final round of the competition. As last year, Slovakia joined the global initiative by organising the ENGIE Innovation Workshop 2017, which took place on 16 June 2017 at the Breweria Restaurant in Bratislava. The workshop was attended by more than 50 ENGIE Services employees and invited guests from the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava.

“The aim of the 2nd Innovation Workshop was to inform our employees in an interactive way about the latest innovation activities within the global ENGIE Group and ENGIE Services in Slovakia. We see the event of this nature as an open communication platform, where together with our employees we are looking for common ways to further support the development of innovation in the Group, how to involve every employee in innovation activities, from top management to technicians and maintenance workers,” says Michal Trnovský, Director of the Development Division at ENGIE Services. Slovakia actively participated in the Innovation Trophies competition this year by entering the innovative project Smart City Trenčín.

“As part of the company’s internal support for innovation, an Innovation Box has been operating on our intranet for several years, through which employees can send their innovative ideas and suggestions. This year, YAMMER was launched within the ENGIE Group in Slovakia, as it is in other countries around the world. We see this communication channel very positively, especially in terms of communicating innovative solutions and interacting with colleagues within the ENGIE Group in Slovakia and around the world.” says Michal Trnovský and adds: “I am glad that at ENGIE we are constantly looking for new solutions and ways to do things better, more modern, more efficient and more innovative. Given the ever-changing world, environment and especially technology, we see our innovation activities as not just something necessary, but rather essential – a way to adapt, anticipate and strive to stay one step ahead of the competition. Developing innovation is therefore one of our key commitments, not only to our customers but also to our own employees who are eager to change things, to learn and to move forward,” concludes Michal Trnovský.
