Prednáška Róbert Ruňanin: Ako premeniť víziu dekarbonizácie na konkrétne riešnia z praxe?

Decarbonisation is not an option. It is the new standard of the future

At yesterday’s Solution Summit 2026 conference, our colleague Róbert Ruňanin, Sales Director of ENGIE Services, raised a topic that is closely related to the future of Slovak cities, companies and the energy industry itself: Why decarbonise?

The answer is simple and extremely fundamental – because the reality around us demands it.

Why decarbonise?

Global warming and climate change are no longer a distant threat. Extreme temperatures, droughts, torrential rains and disrupted ecosystems have a tangible economic value borne by states, cities, businesses and individuals.

For us at ENGIE, it is essential to implement solutions that bring real environmental and economic benefits. Solutions that are in line with the European targets: reducing emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Another decisive factor is competitiveness. Companies that opt for low-carbon technologies are not only meeting legislative requirements, but are preparing for a stable and prosperous future.

Energy security and independence are equally important. A stable and predictable energy supply is no longer a given. Our focus is on creating solutions that minimise dependence on external supplies, while combining efficiency and flexibility.

The path to the right energy mix

Decarbonisation is not black and white. We are not just choosing between renewables and fossil fuels – the solution is always in the middle.

The key to success should be a stable energy mix based on relevant data and expert discussion to propose the optimal mix of measures.

A well-balanced energy mix can simultaneously meet decarbonisation objectives, increase competitiveness and strengthen energy self-sufficiency.

How are we changing energy in Slovakia?

At ENGIE, we don’t stop at words. We are already implementing dozens of projects in Slovakia that are moving the energy sector towards sustainability and delivering real results:

Our next milestone is 2030 – more than 150 MW of installed RES capacity, which means the production of approximately 300,000 MWh of green energy per year.

Decarbonisation as the new standard for the future

For ENGIE, decarbonisation is not an abstract goal, but a new standard that brings opportunities. The implementation of low-carbon projects allows combining environmental, technical and economic benefits and prepares companies and society for a stable and sustainable future.

Our strategy is clear: to tackle decarbonisation systematically and pragmatically, step by step, using technology, expertise and an optimised energy mix.
