In Veľké Kapušany, the 2nd stage of modernisation of the heat management was completed

In September 2023, the 2nd stage of modernisation of the heat management in Veľké Kapušany was completed for a total amount of more than 3 million euros. The project was carried out by TERMMING, a member of the ENGIE Group, which has been operating the town’s heating system since 2016.

“Stage 2 of the modernisation follows on from Stage 1, in which we replaced 2.5 km of outdated heat distribution pipes, supplied and installed 25 domestic heat transfer stations, installed metering and control and modified the technology in one of the gas boiler rooms. The total value of the modernisation was more than EUR 2.5 million,” says Jozef Fabian, Director of Energy Region East at ENGIE Group.

The implementation of Phase 2 was preceded by the preparation of project documentation and obtaining the necessary permits. The actual modernisation started in May and was completed in September 2023.

The aim of the project was to make the operation of the heat management more efficient. This was achieved by replacing the original 4-pipe hot water system with a more efficient 2-pipe system. Almost 2 km of obsolete distribution pipes were replaced by TERMMING with new, pre-insulated pipes, which will reduce future distribution losses and eliminate heat distribution breakdowns.

Part of the 2nd stage of modernization was also the construction of 35 house transfer stations, which will provide citizens with a comfortable supply of heat and hot water in line with current trends. The installation of the domestic transfer stations will reduce the cost of hot water preparation for consumers, as well as the possibility to set individual temperature and heating dates.

The shutdown of one of the boiler houses, which was implemented in September 2023, will also contribute to a more efficient operation of the heat management and reduce emissions.

Thanks to the reconstruction of the distribution lines, we managed to circle the entire town with one primary distribution line. The modernisation will bring to the residents of Veľké Kapušiany better quality supply and reduced costs of hot water preparation. We would like to thank them for their patience and forbearance with the temporary discomfort caused by the excavations. We are confident that they will appreciate the results of our work in terms of reliable energy supply and savings achieved once the reconstruction is completed.” explains Jozef Fabian.

One of the strategic objectives of the ENGIE Group, to which TERMMING belongs, is decarbonisation. Therefore, the company plans to build 2 photovoltaic power plants on the roofs of its own boiler houses in Veľké Kapušany in the near future. The aim of the project is to increase the supply of electricity produced from renewable sources in the region.
