In June we had a Date with Our Town

Bratislava, 3 July 2017

In June, volunteers from ENGIE Services joined the nationwide project of the Pontis Foundation – Our Town. 15 colleagues exchanged computers for brooms, rakes, brushes and together they cleaned up the environment around Kozmos in the Ružinov district of Bratislava.

The largest Central European event of corporate volunteering – Our Town, was organized by Pontis Foundation for the eleventh time on 9-10 June 2017. More than 10,000 volunteers (of which more than 6,000 were corporate volunteers) helped with 500 activities in 52 towns and villages in Slovakia. In two days in June, thanks to people’s commitment, dozens of public spaces were revitalized, kindergartens and schools were painted, watercourses were cleaned up and black dumps were eliminated. Volunteers helped 233 non-profit organisations, low-care centres, social service homes, as well as schools and kindergartens to improve their environment. ENGIE Services was one of 131 companies that participated in the Our Town project this year. On June 9, a 15-member group of ENGIE volunteers spruced up the area around the fountain and the Cosmos.
They traded administrative work in air-conditioned offices for fresh air and painting, planting, scarifying, cleaning, raking and sweeping.

“We are delighted to have been able to take part in this unique project this year. The feedback from colleagues who took part in the various activities in Ružinov was positive. They enjoyed not only the work itself, but also the fact that they did it together with people who are close to volunteering and who are also involved in other similar projects. At the end of the day, we were rewarded not only by the sight of a tidy and cleaned square with a fountain, but also by the feeling that we had done a good job and beautified the environment in the city we live in.” says Ivica Pšenáková, Head of the Department of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, who initiated and coordinated the project within ENGIE Services.

“We would like to participate in the Our Town project next year as well. Our goal is to sign up colleagues from other Slovak cities where the ENGIE Group operates. I believe that next year will be even more successful, participation will be higher and that together we will be able to beautify the environment in other towns and villages in Slovakia,” concludes I. Pšenáková.
