In September it was one year since Termming, a member of the ENGIE Group, took over the thermal management of the municipality of Kanianka. At that time, it had already committed itself to fulfilling the submitted investment plan for a total amount of approximately 400 thousand euros. The intention was to connect the two circuits of the heat distribution systems of the existing boiler houses and to reconstruct one of the engine rooms. The plans are now beginning to turn into reality.
The implementation itself was preceded by thorough preparation, multilateral negotiations and careful selection of suppliers. Since September, the company has been carrying out preparatory work and since October it has been continuing with the actual connection of the two circuits and the reconstruction of one of the boiler rooms. The trial operation of the technology is expected to start in mid-November.
“The late start of the works is due to Termming’s efforts to obtain EU funds for the reconstruction of the distribution lines. As this process is very complicated and lengthy, we are starting the reconstruction only in the autumn period,” says Miroslav Pajchl, Director of the ENGIE Services Energy Department.
Connecting the circuits of the two boiler houses will increase the share of heat production from renewable sources, as it will fully utilise the capacity of the current chipped boiler, which can fully cover the supply of heat and hot water in the less demanding months. The refurbishment will also cover the gas technology plant room, where the original boiler will be replaced by a condensing boiler with higher energy efficiency. The improvement of the technology will thus contribute to stabilising the price of heat for the inhabitants of Kanianka. The nature of wood chips as a fuel also contributes to the stabilisation of the heat price. Its price on the markets is lower and more stable in the long term than that of natural gas, the price of which fluctuates more over time. In addition, Termming has supported this general trend by diversifying local suppliers of renewable fuel.
“In the next few weeks, works related to the modernization of heat distribution systems will be carried out in Kanianka. Excavations in the places of laying the pipelines, cutting of greenery, or short stoppages of heat and hot water supply may cause discomfort to the residents of Kanianka. However, we believe that they will understand the temporary limitations and that they will welcome the modernisation of the heat management, which will bring them a more stable heat price and, thanks to better use of the wood chip boiler output, increased energy security,” says Miroslav Pajchl. The budget for the reconstruction also includes landscaping and greenery, including the replacement planting of 38 new trees. Already during the trial operation, residents can count on a continuous and sufficient supply of heat and hot water, because the boiler room, which will not be reconstructed, will be used as a backup source. The surroundings of the heat circuits and boiler rooms will be landscaped again in the second half of November.
