The ENGIE Group supported 3 schools in western and eastern Slovakia again this year as part of the ENGIE ECO Schools project. The project also included planting of greenery, which was carried out in September and October by employees of ENGIE Group companies together with pupils from primary schools in Moldava nad Bodvou and Skalica and students from the Secondary Vocational School of Crafts and Technologies in Bratislava.
The project aimed at promoting environmental education in ENGIE ECO Schools was first launched in autumn 2015. It enjoyed great success and interest from both the pupils and ENGIE staff who took part. So far, the company has supported 8 primary schools in the towns where it operates its thermal power plants – Pezinok, Senica, Malacky, Skalica, Moldava nad Bodvou and the Bratislava districts of Vrakuňa, Rača and Ružinov. In total, more than 250 pupils and students were involved in the project. This year’s programme, prepared in the framework of the ENGIE ECO Schools project, was again varied. The first part of the programme was devoted to an interactive lecture, during which colleagues introduced pupils and students to the production and distribution of heat and hot water, the world of energy and its efficient and economical use. In the second part of the project, the pupils visited local boiler houses where they could see the technical equipment used for energy production. The last part was dedicated to planting green areas. In Moldava nad Bodvou, pupils, teachers and employees from the Moldava Heating Company planted nine ornamental fruit trees in the school yard. In Skalica, an avenue of 20 fruit trees was planted and in Bratislava, students planted ornamental trees in the school yard around the fitness area, which will serve as a natural shade during exercise in the summer months.
